Goals
At Gracepol, our foremost goal is to breed happy, healthy, and versatile dogs. We meticulously plan each litter by carefully evaluating the mother (dam) based on a range of characteristics. We then select the best male (stud) to complement and enhance her qualities.
Before any mating takes place, we ensure that our girls are in peak physical condition. She is of an appropriate age, in excellent physical shape, mentally mature, has passed all health testing, and we have allowed sufficient time to raise the litter properly.
During her pregnancy, the dam continues to live her usual lifestyle, staying fit, healthy, and content. As her pregnancy nears its end, she becomes comfortable in her designated whelping area, and we plan strategically for the arrival of the puppies to ensure the safety and well-being of both the mother and her newborns.
A couple of things we do here at Gracepol to support our mothers and respect their freedom. After the puppies are born, and as they grow, we provide the option for the mother to co-sleep with her babies. We offer a separate bed for her just outside the whelping box. This arrangement allows her to choose whether to sleep with her puppies or observe them from a safe distance. It gives her the freedom to take a break when necessary. We never impose confinement on our mothers with their puppies and always respect their need for breaks.
Once the babies are at an age for weaning, we provide opportunities for puppies to explore eating on their own terms, and we never force the weaning process. We often find our mother dogs still willing to feed her puppies for many weeks, allowing the mother to choose when she wishes to stop feeding her babies, following her natural instincts.
Puppy Culture
While litters may be infrequent, we invest extensive time and effort in nurturing our puppies when they do arrive. At Gracepol, we adhere to the Puppy Culture program, a comprehensive guide that assists breeders in shaping puppies during their crucial first 12 weeks of life. This approach helps them develop into calm, confident, curious, intelligent, and adaptable dogs.
We are deeply committed to the neurological, mental, and physical development of our puppies. They are raised in a stimulating environment, exposed to appropriate challenges, and provided with proper socialisation and fundamental skills right from their earliest days with us.
Choosing families
Every puppy is born with its unique temperament and personality. At Gracepol, we take great care in screening potential puppy buyers to ensure the best possible match between our puppies and their forever homes. We closely observe each puppy individually, gaining insights into dominant traits and how these characteristics will develop as they grow into adult dogs. Our goal is to align temperament and personality with the most suitable puppy owner or family.
